I understand that life happens and absences will occur, so look here for a brief, daily update of what you missed in class. This is NOT a substitution for checking the class calendar and crate when you return to class. Make sure to pick up the handouts in the crate on the day you return. YOU are responsible for making up all missing/late work within a week of your absence. Tests and quizzes must be made up before or after school the day you return (NO EXCEPTIONS). Try to limit absences as you will miss a ton of information (not just in my class) from just one absence.
If you are absent the day of a book deadline, you are choosing to receive a ZERO even if your absence is excused by your parents. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!

Took notes on Flashbacks and Mood in literature (copy these notes from a friend ASAP!). Read "A Haunted House" and started draft our own version of a haunted house story. As long as everyone works in class this week, homework will NOT be assigned. The only thing you might need to do is READ YOUR BOOK -- your first deadline is next Wednesday! Get your book read! If you were absent last Friday, I expect to see you in my room before or after school tomorrow!
Tuesday 8/27: Today I POSTED the notes on the homepage (if you were absent, check the homepage and copy the notes into your composition notebook), so after everyone checked their grades, they copied the notes into their composition notebook. Once the time was up, we read "The Last Night of the World" and started our own stories. If you are currently failing my class, you need to report to my classroom tomorrow at 8:20am. Failure to show up will result in an automatic referral. Gotta get those grades up!
Wednesday 8/28: Today we read and started to annotate (close read) our first article of the week (AOW). Together we took notes and close read, step-by-step together. If you were absent, stop by and get the handouts from me (2 of them) and copy notes from a friend! We will finish this task tomorrow before moving on to our next short story! If you failed to report to a mandatory WLC for my class (due to failing grades), you are being assigned a Saturday detention by Dr. Lovell.
Thursday 8/29: Today we finished the AOW model/practice. This AOW and the BLUE close reading handout need to be organized someplace safe as you will use these each week you complete an AOW.
